Dr. Mark Plauché Ryan  - Preventive Dentist

The profession of Dentistry in America began with the formation of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1839.  It is now the Dental School of the University of Maryland.  Horace Hayden, Chapin Harris and Solymon Brown were instrumental in creating this institution. This was long before antibiotics, electricity, radiology and anesthesia.  1839 was the same year baseball was organized in Cooperstown, NY. 

Dr. Solyman Brown, AM, DD, MD, DDS (1790-1876) wrote a book called Dentologia.  Published in 1833, in New York by Peabody & Co., it is transcribed here.   Dentologia
